Tooling Engineer/Mgr.
Coordinates the activities of tooling engineering, tool design, purchasing, vendors, and the tool room personnel to facilitate production and / or procurement of tooling by performing the following duties: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Procures quotes for new molding tool builds and repairs from outside services. Hires, trains, and supervises a team of hourly tool room employees Oversees all functions of the tooling area including tooling documentation, employee evaluations, dept. safety procedures, and necessary disciplinary actions Formulates internal quotes for new mold builds and repairs Manages build and repair schedules for molding tools, and maintains budgets on outside services for mold bases, cavity and core work, wire EDM, welding, and general tooling. Maintains manual and computerized records of all toolroom purchasing and receiving activities. Ensures all components for toolroom jobs are ordered and delivered on time. Supervises tool room lead and other area support to maintain and record all tool room time slip accounting. Supervises tooling designer(s) to ensure adequate knowledge, training, and succession planning is in place. Provides reports on all tooling purchases and outside vendor purchases for monthly budget closes. Provides vendors with accurate electronic files, prints and records documentation of transactions for outside work. Continually develops and maintains a base of outside vendors which will provide required quality, leadtimes at an economical advantage for AFT ? goal of 2 domestic and 1 offshore vendor to ensure competitive bidding occurs. Pursues new technologies that can reduce tooling costs in maintenance and during build process. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experience Minimum 5 years of experience as a toolmaker or equivalent mold and tool experience Minimum 2 years of experience in CAD molding tool design Minimum 2 years of experience in CAM programming for vertical mills and EDM?s Demonstrated skill in supervising a team of skilled toolroom personnel Demonstrated effective communication skills, both oral and written Demonstrated skill in extracting information and compiling data for a variety of reports Demonstrated skill in interacting with a large variety of people from varying economical, social, and educational backgrounds Demonstrated skill in using Solidworks to prepare and transfer files to outside vendors Demonstrated skill at generating accurate reports Thorough knowledge of mold design and applications Strong ability to follow directions both verbal and written Ability and willingness to work outside the typically scheduled hours when necessary Willingness to pick-up and deliver to vendors when necessary; and also to be sure that the vendors provide the delivery and pick-up service when applicable Ability to handle changing priorities and have the ability to make sound judgment calls on short notice Note: Please mention Get Machinist Jobs (GetMachinistJobs.com) in your cover letter when applying.
