Machinist/Machine Shop Foreman

This is a part-time position perfect for someone who's semi-retired. The shop mechanic will work in our shop repairing equipment brought back from jobs and maintaining inventory. The types of equipment serviced are grinders, shot blasters, scrapers, and other related items. The equipment will be electric, diesel driven, gasoline driven, & air operated among others. The shop mechanic, like all our employees, does not have a limited job description but is expected to do the work required to meet our needs. It is expected that the shop mechanic will take part and adhere to JDL safety and drug free programs. These programs are important to the safety of our employees and in conveying our image of a professional organization committed to safe operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
We require that all applicants have a valid Florida drivers license with a clean driving record.
JDL does require the applicant have general mechanical experience and the ability to learn quickly. The successful candidate can be sent to manufacturers product schools for specific training.
Knowledge of electrical wiring helpful.
Ability to work overtime as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Repairing of equipment in the shop.
Work in the field repairing equipment at customer locations.
Assist in the maintenance of the shop, warehouse, and vehicles.
Assist in loading/unloading materials & equipment from vehicles.
Make deliveries and pick-ups.
Standby service and be available to work while off duty at designated times.
Ability to complete repair ticket paperwork in an orderly way so that we can understand.
Good reading skills to consult equipment manuals.
Ability to read wiring diagrams to wire equipment.
Driving and operating all JDL vehicles including trailers, pick-ups and service vehicles.
Maintaining inventory and placing orders.
Maintaining equipment service logs.
Staging equipment and material for jobs. Assist in scheduling equipment used on each job to achieve maximum efficiency.
Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment at all times.

The physical demands and work environment:

Activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts, bolts, electronic controls, and other small parts.
Occasional use of foot/feet to operate foot pedal on equipment to test operation.
Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, and infrequent lifting up to 75 lbs.
Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per day.
Ability to bend, kneel and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time.
Strenuous activity and agility is required in the handling of equipment and accessories.
Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day.
Occasionally working at heights above 10 ft.
Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dust, gas and/or fumes.
